Outpatient Surgery

*Before Your Surgery

-If you smoke, make the best effort to quit smoking as far before surgery as possible. Smoking may cause problems after surgery.

-Check with your health insurance plan to be sure the procedure will be covered.

-Tell your doctor what medications you are taking. This includes any blood thinners. The doctor will let you know when to discontinue your medication(s).

-An appointment will be made for you to register at the hospital before the surgery date. After registration it is possible that some testing is required. This may include an EKG, blood work, and/or chest x-ray.

-Arrange for an adult to drive you home. You will not be allowed to drive home after surgery.

-A follow up appointment is very important. Make an appointment for follow-up after surgery as soon as you have been scheduled for surgery.

-If cardiac clearance is needed please obtain clearance, test results and reports before your registration appointment.

           

            *What to bring for Registration:

                        -Valid picture ID with current information

                        -Health insurance card

-List of current medications including vitamins, over the counter medication & aspirin

                        -Cardiac clearance letter and test results if needed

                        **you do not have to fast for your pre-testing day unless directed to do so

                        **failure to appear for pre-testing will result in cancellation of surgery

 

            *NPO (Nothing By Mouth)

                        - Do not drink alcohol for the 24 hours before surgery

                        - Do not eat or drink anything (including water) from midnight prior to

  surgery

-If you need to take medication the morning of surgery take with sips of

water only (check with the doctor as to what medications are needed before surgery)
